I love that this is one of the first movies that get converted to knew technology (like blueray, etc) when it comes out. It's always great watching again every decade or so in higher and higher fidelity :D

Multi. Pass!

In my top ten for sure. I was fortunate to get to watch this a few years ago at Red Rocks (outdoor amphitheater in CO, US) with a few thousand other fans. It was so much fun, with people in costumes, everyone saying all the lines it loud together.

The amount of practical effects used to make this is always impressive, especially compared to today's green screens. I was amazed to see that they made a scale section of future NYC for scenes. And all the costumes? So varied, imaginative, and amazing. One of my favorites for sure

First movie I purchased on PPV in High School. Blew my mind. Hit on so many of the interests I have and also had effortless humor. Holds up.

Great film, happy to see it made available to such a wide audience. This and The Professional (also by Luc Besson) both had Born Sexy Yesterday vibes, but Fifth Element gets more of a pass because Leeloo is some ageless mythical being, while Mathilda was an actual child. Both are still high quality movies and personal favorites, but that might turn some people off from them.

How do these uploads remain on YT?

[–] perishthethought@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I've never been quite sure. The movie industry works with YT to remove uploads they don't want and restrict others in some places, according to (contracts? laws? whims?) That's about all I know.

One of my favourite movies ever. Campy at times yes, but it's just so much fun and also contains the odd commentary about society (i think, I'm horrible about picking up cues like this).
