Just a lot of polish and a few fulfilled feature requests. This update was supposed to be quick and improve the look and feel of the app as well as knock out some user requests but some of the changes took a lot more effort than budgeted.

Full changelog

  • Added support for SVG images
  • Added a setting to pick the location where files will be downloaded to.
  • Added 2 new global font size options: XXL and XXXL (extra extra large and extra extra extra large).
  • Added per-community view types. This allows you to change the view type based on which community is selected.
  • Improve the performance of the community browser/chooser.
  • Fixed an issue where the vote count is invisible on light theme.
  • Polished the look of a few elements within the app.
  • Fixed an issue where removed posts would not have an icon next to them in the post list.
  • Fixed a crash when using the built in screenshot taker to take screenshots of comments when avatars are enabled.

v1.21.2

  • Fixed a bug where leaving the app and coming back will reset the comment message in rare cases.
  • Updated the instance info screen to show more details.
  • Fixed a bug where scrolling past animated images may cause content to jump.
  • Fixed a bug where certain preferences are not displayed correctly.

v1.21.3

  • Fixed a crash that occurs when tapping on a lemmy link.
  • Fixed a crash when searching settings.
  • Added labels to the text formatting toolbar. Labels can be seen by long tapping the icon buttons.
  • Fixed some left handed mode issues.
  • Added a button to swap the upvote/downvote color in Settings > Theme.
  • Fixed a bug where tapping on the Summit community within Settings would put the app in a weird state.

Update

Found a crash that was introduced in v1.20.0. Will release v1.21.1 to address this crash.

Update 2

Released v1.21.2. Made some minor changes to the app and wanted to release it before the holidays. I'm not sure if I'll do any additional work before the new years so this might be the final update of the year (unless something breaks). Enjoy!

Update 3

Working on some more minor fixes:

  • Fixed a crash that occurs when tapping on a lemmy link.
  • Fixed a crash when searching settings.
  • Added labels to the text formatting toolbar. Labels can be seen by long tapping the icon buttons.
  • Fixed some left handed mode issues.
  • Added a button to swap the upvote/downvote color in Settings > Theme.
  • Fixed a bug where tapping on the Summit community within Settings would put the app in a weird state.

Update 4

Releasing all of the changes in Update 3 as v1.21.3.

Update 5

Checked the crash rate this morning and there are still some users experiencing crashes so I'm pushing out a new version to address those. Hopefully this is the last update of the year.

Added per-community view types. This allows you to change the view type based on which community is selected.

Wow so great 😄

Summit is a great app, and it's getting better with every update. Thanks for your contribution to the lemmyverse!

Thanks for all the updates, I just subscribed the Patreon recently and it seems pretty inactive wondering if you will be posting things there in the future or if I should just look here for updates.

Also the two little bugs I found, the save draft button for comments is spelt safe draft and when you have upvote and downvote numbers on they clip outside of the screen causing the text not to be visible.

Thanks again for all your work and being so community focused :)

Regarding patreon and all donations, it's there to support development. There is no exclusive content and I feel like any time I spend creating content there would eat into time I could be using to develop even more features in the app or fix bugs.

Nice catch on the former issue. I'll fix it for the next update. Regarding the latter issue, this is a layout issue mostly because comment headers do not wrap by default. I haven't found a good middle ground just yet. One quick and easy fix is to wrap the comment headers but it looks a bit weird. There is a 2nd solution which is to design headers to be two lines, however I've observed that some users like everything to be compact.

The app actually already supports both wrapping and multiline comment headers, it's just not configurable. One way to force multiline headers is to enable avatars. You can give it a try in case that works for you. (It's in Settings > Comment List > Show profile icons).

So there is also the obvious solution of making multi-line and wrapping headers two new setting options. The issue is that user avatars was designed with multi-line headers in mind. I think what I might have to do is make them "presets". Eg. you can choose between header with avatars, multi-line, single line or wrapping headers, but you can't mix and match.

Thanks for the response and the help with the latter issue. with the Patreon thing, I worded it badly and was just wondering if it was worth checking the Patreon for new content, or if everything to do with the app would be here as I don't have the Patreon app and just used it as a way to donate, but your comment answered that anyway so thank you and sorry for wording things badly. ^-^

Thanks again for all your work. Hope you have a lovely new years :D
