What are they reforming into and were? This type of domestic terrorists don't just suddenly get educated, and find ethics, and morals.

The roaches scurry when you turn on the light, but they're still there breeding and growing in numbers. Gotta get an exterminator and actively root them out.

Per the article:

There's evidence some Proud Boys are decamping to neo-Nazi groups. I'd argue that the Proud Boys are impacted by the same forces that are causing Moms for Liberty to falter. Republicans bet big into 2022 on far-right groups, but instead, the GOP underperformed in the 2022 and 2023 elections. The backfire effect is reducing enthusiasm for this new breed of culture warriors.

Apologies for skimming, and thank you for helping me read. LOL. #selfFacePalm

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for at least skimming; it's more than most people do

It's true. I usually dive into the comments to see if the article is worth my time and energy. Or see if the bot already reduced it by 70%. 😅

Legal consequences hurt authoritarian movements, hence the reluctance to impose them.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@kbin.run 47 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Cool, how 'bout some more legal consequences?

[–] pearsaltchocolatebar@discuss.online 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Or, you know, the actual legal consequences defined by the law instead of slaps on the wrist for trying to overthrow the government.

As an abolitionist, I look forward to ponderous think pieces about the horrors of the prison industrial complex starting to appear in right-wing publications.

Just a reminder that the "rise" of the proud boys could not have happened as it did if it wasn't for Joe Rogan constantly defending/promoting Gavin McInnes (FOUNDER of the proud boys) & his terrorist gang (which he knew was a terrorist gang while defending it).

(& then Daniel Ek paid Rogan 200 million to do this & promote anti-vax shit on Spotify exlusively).

They're only consequences until Trump gets back in and pardons them all.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Or we keep the orange skid mark dude from being elected again

His ilk has been BODIED in every election against the softest most mild candidates. He's got no shot bro.

The hype for him has really died off and most of the sorta Trumpers moved away. He's done and the Republicans are too. They will rebrand the next few elections and try to find a new strategy to continue. Lindsey Graham knew what he was talking about when he said his infamous quote

[–] leraje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 10 months ago

He's currently the leading R candidate. Barring a miracle, he'll get nominated. Any sort of complacency by the electorate will lead to him getting in again.

[–] thecrotch@sh.itjust.works 8 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Polls say he's neck and neck with Biden right now. I didn't think he had a shot in 16, then he won. It's way too early to call this. Fight until the last minute.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Polls by whom, asking who, with what methodology? If it's cold-calling people to ask them who they will vote for you can bet that nobody under 60 is answering.

[–] thecrotch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 months ago

I hope you're right. It was damn near 50/50 in 2020 though, I see no reason to expect different now. The people turned off by trumps legal issues already weren't voting for him.

[–] creamed_eels@toast.ooo 6 points 10 months ago

The very same Lindsey Graham that was flat on his flaccid yellow belly, licking as much maga boot as he could fit into his purty little mouth?

[–] Illecors@lemmy.cafe 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What's the infamous quote?

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not the one you're asking, but they probably mean this one from Twitter.

If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.......and we will deserve it. - 5:03 PM · May 3, 2016

Scum needs to be cleaned and washed down the drain.

"First they came for the Proud Boys, and I did not speak out, because fuck 'em."

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I wonder... Is there an commentary increase in the population of white supremacists in US prisons?
