News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

I was just browsing a thread on c/nfl looking for new mods. There were multiple 12+ year Redditors there offering to help.

Got me wondering. There are 14,000 of us in this community. How many of us are ten year plus users who have just had enough?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to be as poignant as it became. There are so many of you... I can't reply to everyone. I'm an 11 year user and have modded something like 150 subs over the years. I'm really sad too, but I'm finding that lemmy has most of the content I'm looking for, just needs more comments.

The API was a big blow, but removing awards on past posts and deleting coin balances is really dumb.

12 years of heavy activity here, I nuked my account 6 weeks or so ago.

[–] DaveFuckinMorgan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

11 years. I want to view controversial content and I'm not feeling too optomistic about lemmy world either.

I forget what year it happened in but I started reddit with the Digg migration.

Over 10. I left for Voat, then it died, then I didn't come back for a long time. Started enjoying it again and now I'm done.

[–] spiffy_spaceman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I was there for at least 10 years. Not going back.

[–] Tetra@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

It's me. I'm in this picture

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Reporting for duty, sir!

[–] We1chy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Me. Not quite 10 years, but close at 9 and some months.

[–] myusernameisokay@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Joined in 2009. Pretty much never browse Reddit anymore other than specific scenarios.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

9 years on my last account. About 13 or 14 years on my first one that was doxxing me

[–] scarcer@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

12 or 13 years? Don't really remember or care!

[–] synae@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

16 years for me. They took away the app I preferred (joey) so I went somewhere else.

[–] ChamrsDeluxe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

What's got 2 thumbs and is this guy?

THIS GUY!

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Pretty sure I was at 11 years. Not going back to check

[–] vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

had an 11 year old account. Deleted it

[–] BellaDonna@mujico.org 2 points 1 year ago

Almost 18 years for me, I left Digg for Reddit over the HD DVD thing. It was really hard to leave.

[–] drdabbles@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My oldest account is just under 14 years old. I only visit to check on the status of my data download, and check on one sub once a month.

11 year old reddit account deleted, plus an anon alt for gaming stuff.

I had no interest in using reddit without Apollo anyway, but the way they treated Selig and the other devs was just mind blowing. The treatment of mods after I'd already deleted everything just made me more sure I'd made the right decision.

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

There since 2009. That's about when I started mainlining the internet. Glad to watch it burn here with all of you. Cheers!

[–] AvrgJoe@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I'm a 10 yearer. Shame, I loved Rif.

[–] burgersc12@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I started using around 2013, a guy in my math class showed me the site, and I hadn't taken a single day off until a couple of days after the r*ddit ama. Now I will live and die on Lemmy

[–] Ricaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

My account is 13, but lurked a bit before that. Never installed the official app. Used RES for desktop, and Boost for mobile.

[–] kaotic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

14 year account, I'm done with reddit.

[–] Rusky_900@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Not sure how long exactly, but probably more than 10 years. And I'm gone!

[–] wtvr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

15+ years here. I would login and check exactly but I don't wanna give em any traffic 😆

[–] lymingseng@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

5y, I really miss Unexpected sub

Me, the modding had become a real quagmire.

[–] itsmaxyd@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Joined in 2008, left in 2023.. the only constant is change

[–] Mezzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

12 years. The couple times I have gone back since joining here I can't help but notice how toxic the comments are. Didn't notice it before... Must've been a boiling frog phenomenon .

Much more joyous here. I'm hoping that vibe stays around here for a little while.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

It's good to be on the old internet. 10+ years, 300k nuked karma. I still have my account to take care of some subs but the activity is here.

[–] zerkrazus@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

My main account over there isn't that old, but I've been using the site off/on for probably at least that long. I mainly was a reader/lurker over there for years as I didn't really feel like posting as at the time almost everything I posted got downvoted for some reason. Then over time as I got older I cared less about that and started posting more. Last I checked I think my karma was 100,000-something.

[–] jeeva@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

13+ here, haven't gone to browse it since they announced the third party changes - despite, I think, my chosen app still working, I removed the shortcut from my home screen and it pretty much stopped me. Few days of awkward muscle memory tapping the area it used to be (embarrassing?)
