Trailer looks derivative. Hopefully there’s a plot other than β€œship gets infected, woman kicks alien ass.” Otherwise this franchise will become just another Friday the 13th.

Looking forward to seeing how the planned TV show turns out. Hopefully there’s more universe building there.

The series is by Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo), so I have high hopes for that one.

[–] PlainSimpleGarak@lemm.ee 2 points 8 months ago

To this day I've never watched a show that was as big of a mind fuck as Legion.

Yeah it's a shame because Prometheus and Covenant were brilliant.

Every other director's take on this franchise seems to miss the point. It's not an action horror franchise, it's more a suspense psychological thriller.

I did not enjoy Prometheus. Within minutes of arriving on an alien world the cartographer gets lost and the xenobiologist touches the forest thing he sees.

[–] Anamnesis@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Yeah the plot turns in Prometheus are about as dumb as running in the same direction something is falling instead of just stepping to the left or right.

[–] tty5@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

Based on how heavily they are leaning into who is making the movie + abundance of facehuggers and action I'm not optimistic.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Looks good, glad Ridley isn't directing this one. The scene where the face hugger jumps toward the camera got me hyped.

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Funny cus literally the only good Alien movies are directed exclusively by Ridley Scott. The rest are generic action money grabs besides maybe Alien 3. While it embraced the weird still wasn't good.

The title of the movie has my Trekkie heart scream in desperate confusion.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (3 children)

Was there ever a Star Trek vs Alien comic book?

[–] Volkditty@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

One was in the works but got canned.

For the next best thing, watch the episodes of Strange New Worlds with the Gorn.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 8 months ago

No, but I made this edit a while ago. Surprisingly easy to make the two anesthetics work together.

[–] Norgur@fedia.io 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

IDK, but Romulus is a planet deeply and exclusively connected to star Trek for me

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

It’s also a mythological character. Like Prometheus.

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Lol same but comes from Roman times originally

[–] Killerbee523@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

Damn, great trailer. I was skeptical but that has me excited.

[–] CodingCarpenter@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

I don't know man. Like I'm glad it's not the fucking creators again. But like this looks like a generic action movie. I doubt there's going to be much horror it's probably closer to a thriller. I do appreciate them trying to go back to their roots at least a little bit but I'm not holding my breath

In my head canon, the only movie that exists in the Alien timeline is the first one.

That being said, I deeply enjoyed Prometheus and Alien: Covenant so I’ll probably enjoy this too

I knew someone was gonna ask that. I saw it once and thought it was a fun movie, but didn’t instill fear in nearly the same way that the first does. I liked the game Alien Isolation more than the movie Aliens for that reason.

[–] MamboGator@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Looks great to me. I was confusing it with the TV series in development that is set on Earth, which sounds... I'm not optimistic about it. But this trailer looks like it has everything that I like about the movies.

[–] allywilson@sopuli.xyz 1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

this looks fairly generic to me. Alien killing humans in space. I don't see what's new? Admittedly watched it on phone on a bus.

[–] KingOfSleep@lemmy.ca 20 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This might not be the franchise for you.

[–] Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

It looks very much like they are just trying to hit notes from the first two films.

I am yet to be interested in this. For better or worse, most films in the franchise took unique directions, but this looks more like a trendy remake of the original.
