Kids & young adults around me are heavily affected by TikTok use, just as much, if not more than by Meta products, and they themselves are even telling me about their addiction.

I read a quote in a BBC article which resonated heavily with me: "The trust and safety employee's blunt advice to parents with children using TikTok is: "Delete it, keep them as far away as possible from the app for as long as possible. "

It's time we did something to fight back. Let's raise awareness, let's promote alternatives and let's get people to healthier communities :)

"Snap is the latest big tech company to settle a lawsuit that claimed social media platforms are harmful to children and young adults. The company has reached a “tentative” agreement in a case that was set to go to trial later this month.

TikTok recently settled its portion of the case with the plaintiff, known by the initials “R.K.C.,” ahead of a jury trial that starts next week in Los Angeles.

YouTube has also reached a deal, leaving Meta as the only remaining defendant."

"More than 1,000 school districts, including LAUSD, are suing Meta, Google, TikTok and others, arguing social media has fueled a youth mental health crisis and drained school resources."

Surprise Surprise ;)

"But some users have voiced concerns that TikTok’s almighty algorithm doesn’t seem to incorporate negative feedback very well. Even when they don’t watch a suggested video or click the “not interested” feature, they keep seeing those videos on their FYP. Northwestern University computer scientists put those suspicions to the test. According to their recent paper, the engagement signals do have an effect, but only temporarily. Then the algorithm gradually relapses unless a user consistently gives the same feedback over and over again."

"Other recent departures have included global head of creators, Kim Farrell, who left earlier this year after almost six years, and Blake Chandlee, who departed in 2025 after leading advertising and marketing for six years.

Michael Beckerman, a public policy executive who helped lead TikTok’s fight against a U.S. ban, also exited last year, as did music chief Ole Obermann. And Erich Andersen, who served as U.S.-based general counsel for TikTok and its Chinese parent ByteDance Ltd., left that role in 2024."

Did they quit or did they DeTikTok? ;)
