I know, the world moved to streaming but I like owning physical devices. Where do you buy DVDs and BlueRay Discs of your favourite movies?

edit: Know multiple options for used ones. Looking for shops to sell new discs.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced domain registrar that complies with European regulations such as the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive (e.g. not making redacting personal data in RDAP/WHOIS a paid service) and who lets me pay and manage just a domain without being forced to pay for multiple extra services I don't want or need; preferably with a free SSL certificate included and DNSSEC. I'm currently at the US provider Porkbun which has a good service, but is sadly USA-based and does not fully comply with the GDPR.

So I've been updating my kitchenware, and came across two makers that I didn't know of before and have been very positively surprised by:

Paderno.it: Italian stainless steel. A local specialist kitchenware store was carrying the brand which is how I learned of it, and their online store was one of the few places where I could find a shallow pot/casserole/saute pan but with handles/mini-rondeau-ish thing. Which I now absolutely adore.

Triangle-tools.de: German kitchen tools. Went in for a fish spatula, also got a fantastic silicone licker and a swivel peeler (with detachable blade they sell spares for, but more importantly can be detached for sharpening!).

Also shoutouts to Demeyere for Belgian rivetless stainless steel at prices that will make you cry (I have held your sateuse... soon™ it will be mine) and Heirol Finnish kitchenware for basic+ quality basic stuff.

The companies will form a new joint venture, the European Network for Payments, which will be based in Madrid and connect national payment systems.

ENP's founders are Bancomat, Bizum, EPI Company/Wero, SIBS-MB WAY and Vipps MobilePay, which together serve around 130 million users across 13 European countries, covering more than 70% of the population of the EU and Norway. The network will connect existing payment systems through a common technical and operational layer based on European standards and instant account-to-account payments.

The announcement has a bitter-sweet flavor for those who have been following EPI and Wero. Spanish and Italian banks were originally part of EPI, but they left in 2021 and founded European Payments Alliance. The reason was that they wanted to retain their national open banking solutions: Bizum and Bancomat. EPI refused this type of fragmentation and wanted all members to adopt a common solution. As a consequence, any further progress stalled until June 2025, when EPI gave in and accepted the existence of parallel payment solutions.

The recent announcement shows that Bizum and Bancomat will migrate from national open banking solutions to ECB's open banking API which is also used by Wero. Hence, the migration costs and technological interoperability weren't the reasons why Spanish and Italian banks refused to join Wero. Rather, they see Bizum and Bancomat brand respectively as a strategic chip that could help them gain market share. Thus, in addition to the announced cooperation, we may also see some competition. Notably, the German branches of Santander, BBVA and HSBC (Unicredit) are among the few German banks that haven't announced Wero yet. Most likely they plan to bring Bizum and Bancomat to Germany rather than to offer Wero.

Hello, I'm looking for good EU news sites that supports rss feeds. I'm already subscribed to Deutsche Welle and France24. Euractive was amazing, but I can't seem to make it work with Miniflux anymore.

Greece agreed to a €3 billion air defense deal with Israel and they won't get the source code for the command-and-control system. So Greek engineers can't maintain or upgrade it on their own. they have to rely on Israel.

Greek defense minister Nikos Dendias said in July that becoming a "hostage" to even the friendliest ally is "absolutely impossible." But that's exactly what this looks like. Israel's Missile Defense Organization director Moshe Patel was asked if Greece gets the source code. He said: "No. Because the source code was not included in the license to use the agreement."

Israel's defense ministry later said Israeli know-how would go to Greek companies so they can develop a "Greek source code." But the original answer was no. And the system is still built on Israeli tech.

So Greece is paying €3 billion to a foreign supplier and can't fully control the thing. That's not sovereignty. That's dependency.

And this is a country that's supposed to be in the EU. Why is it buying weapons from Israel at all? Greece should not be giving money to Israel. I think giving money to Israel right now is wrong. The ICJ is looking at genocide charges. Greece shouldn't be funding this.

If you're European, you should ask why your union is okay with this. Why is a member state doing deals like this? Why isn't anyone stopping it? These money should go to european alternatives.

I changed my license (bergie.iki.fi)

cross-posted from: https://feddit.org/post/35110129

This year I decided to switch my “default license” to EUPL-1.2. This is an OSI-approved free software license created and published by the European Union. And it is quite a divergence from the licenses I’ve used in the past. EUPL is a strong copyleft license that closes the “SaaS loophole” by requiring reciprocal licensing regardless of how the software is distributed.

Over the years it has been clear that we in the “open source” camp (as opposed to the “free software” camp) were wrong all along.

We won the debate, and gained little for users or developers. All that our efforts did was to make it easier for big corporations build things more cheaply and for billionaires to become trillionaires.

And so it is time to stop messing about with permissive licenses. If corporations don’t want to use our software under our terms, they are free to spend the effort or tokens to build their own.

Bought the Lifetime subscription of both apps. Babbel (German) and Memrise (UK) are European language learning apps. They are working perfectly on my degoogled Fairphone 6 on /e/OS

I'm looking for a water filter that could filter medium volumes of water for a family of six, something that could filter and collect rainwater or river water. It doesn't need to be portable since I intend to use this from my home, but not too large, in case I do need to transport it.

The emergency would be in case our lovely psychopath neighbors to the east do something stupid, so something that could run without electricity or power would be perfect.

Hi everyone, as my 64 oz Stanley Quencher broke recently (drink flowed in the insulation layer, handle broke off), I'm looking for a high-quality replacement, of course from the EU instead of the US. Any recommendations are highly welcome!

TLDR: it's a spec bump for the processor and RAM. One question I personally had is does that mean the motherboard is backward compatible with the og FP6?

At first I wanted to recommend this platform as it looked promising. After the first comments I took a deeper look at the project and must say: interesting but worrisome. I skimmed the repository and it somewhat looks like a total car crash spiked with red flags.

To be clear: I don't think that vibecoding is per se a problem, the extend to which it is used and by whom in which manner/workflow/procedure makes a difference.

Anyhow. I leave this post online as I still think the idea of an federated business network made in EU is worth something.

The original post

BizzFed looks like a professional network — and works like one. Profiles, company pages, job listings. What's different underneath: every account lives on an instance. Many instances talk to each other via ActivityPub.

I'm curious how they will evolve and how many instances will show up. I could imagine companies preferring BizzFed over custom mastodon instances, as it supports more than regular posts, and the profiles are more expressive.

Edit: project is vibecoded and has a history of security issues, related to that. I don’t know if the approach of development was changed since then and if their QA and methodology got better.

EUSP (European Search Perspective) is our joint venture with Qwant to build a European search index. We started serving results to users in France last year, and now we’re excited to go live in Germany too

A big leap forward.
