So late 40s 1 teenager left at home. Good job but I can’t stand it but i can’t afford to leave it. Find that life has become a hamster wheel.

I’m sure this is very natural and I’m sure others have done it. Would love to hear your stories not so much suggestions for myself more interested in your stories.

Cheers.

You know, the same Saudi Arabia that kills and dismembers journalists. This puff-piece by Philip "Scoop" Chandler is only marked as "advertisement" at the very bottom, but it does mean that the ODT is accepting money from a country that murders journalists and executes dissidents. Just very distasteful.

A new scam where parcels are sent to your address without any sender details. To find who sent the parcel you're to scan the QR code inside the parcel....receiver beware.

I don't know if anyone was watching Q+A this morning, but Jack Tame signed off by saying that they'd requested for Luxon to be on multiple times and he has still yet to be on in his capacity as PM. He pointed out Ardern was on twice a year, and Key and English were on up to 4 times a year. I don't think it's acceptable for our govt to not be held to account. Right-wing idiots will go on about how biased TVNZ is, but actually I think Tame is very fair as an interviewer and asks tough questions of politicians on both sides

The whole process of references seems really flawed to me.

As an employee, of course we're only going to supply a reference if we think it'll make us look good. And we'll actively avoid supplying a referee who will make us look bad. I think on top of that, there are limits to what negative things a referee can say about us which seems to make the whole process a little pointless. It's certainly a world away from being able to ring any previous employer and get honest feedback on an applicant.

And I've seen employers say that they will only check a reference once they've decided to hire someone anyway...it's just to confirm what they already think.

So I wonder....is a reference worth anything these days?

What are red flags when a reference is supplied?

I'm going away for a month and I arranged my cousins to housesit in the house I'm retting. My cousins are women in their 40s, coming to NZ from overseas for this reason and to travel around the area while at it. Very reliable and quiet people, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my stuff and to take care of my pets. Obviously this is not sub letting, no legal concerns there.

I'm happy to let the landlord's agent know about this situation because if I was a landlord I would want to be aware too, but I'm worried about the off-chance they might say no. I can't delay my travel (it partly involves medical treatment overseas too), and I can't afford the lodge for my two pets for this long. It would be a huge hit if they say no, I don't honestly know how I would go around it if they do. On the other hand, if I say nothing it's unlikely they would notice.....

Can the landlord / landlord's agent (legally) refuse if I give them notice about this?

I used to work at a call center for a clinic, handling appointment bookings for people across New Zealand. When I pulled up a patient's file to schedule an appointment, their doctor's notes and previous appointment details would automatically appear. This often included highly personal information, like mental health issues, STI concerns, abuse, or abortion history, super detailed too —things that are extremely private.

Sometimes, I even received calls from people I knew, and I ended up learning things about them that even their families weren’t aware of. Now, whenever I book an appointment for myself, I can’t help but feel uneasy, wondering if the person on the other end can see all my past medical details too.

Have you ever worked in a call center for a clinic, and was your experience similar?

What products or brands made in NZ do you like or rate highly? I'll start with CookieTime cookies (Triple Choc Chunk the GOAT), an arguably underrated NZ staple. Their cookies are the perfect amount of sweetness with just a hint of salt. Delicious.

Another for me is Fix and Fogg Almond butter.

Did anyone else notice the vegan ice cream trumpets changed? They got rid of the solid choclate bit in the middle, removed the bottom hard choclate and changed from a green to a gray top. They also removed tons of the choclate inside it. I can't tell if it's just me that has had this issue or not as i can't see anyone talking about it.

Just letting people know to beware that on facebook there is an advertisement which I am opinion is run by scammers where they are selling 'lost luggage' for $5. My parents proceeded with the transaction and whats worse they have given them their address. My parents were scammed and when I warned them not to touch any advertisement on Facebook saying lost luggage is being sold for $5, they did not wish to take responsibility for their own actions
