Print My Thing

A place for owners of 3D printers to connect with people who need stuff 3D printed. Need a thing printed? Maybe somebody here can print it for you.

Why didn't I call this 3D print my thing? Well, maybe don't need something 3D printed per se. Maybe you need an offset print. Or something laser cut. Or woodburned, or CNC plasma cut, or milled, or lathed, or whatever else. Maybe somebody can help you with that, too. It's worth a shot, ain't it?

Obvious Caveats

Agreements between parties are their own responsibility and have nothing to do with lemmy.world, its admins, or moderators.

Asking for prints related to creating functional weapons (i.e. guns) is prohibited unless we hear otherwise from the instance administrators.

Off topic bickering will most likely be removed with a nudge to engage in it within its appropriate community.

I haven't regaled anybody with this exciting tale, because, well. Who cares? But my printer has been busted for the last couple of weeks and I've been waiting on parts to show up on the slow boat from China, which is such a drag. (A heated print bed, if you must know, which on my X-Max 3 is all one lump along with the bed heater thermistor which is actually the part that blew up.) This missive will thusly become ever more humorously out of date as time wears on.

But now that I'm finally back in business I can also offer my machine's services to anybody who needs things 3D printed. In most cases I'll print stuff for the personal use of anyone who makes a compelling case, just for the cost of materials and shipping. I can print in PLA, TPU, PETG, ABS, ASA, filled Nylons (carbon or glass), and theoretically even polycarbonate if you want to gamble. I can ship to most addresses in the US.

My machine has a pretty big print area โ€” 325x325mm, theoretically โ€” and I'm pretty well set up to make large objects and functional mechanical things. If you want highly detailed little D&D minis or something I'll probably be setting you up for disappointment.

Title basically. If anyone else wants to join the printer army feel free to reply.

Guardrails:

  • You must provide a STL. Custom parts usually require an iteration or three, as well as hands on access to reference material (eg the failed part, the subject a part will be used on) to get accurate measurements. I could design you part, but odds are it won't be perfect the first time and I would prefer to save us both the effort and heartache
  • I will print functional prints for you out of filament I presently have "in stock", which is mostly black or neutral ASA. I may have PLA or PETG in stock from time to time. If you want a different color or material you're welcome to buy a roll of filament
  • Parts must be under 250 grams in total. I'm happy to help, but I'm not looking to give away filament. I am willing to barter some with the bullet below
  • You must mail me something in return for the parts. This can be anything at all that you made - a cookie, a sketch, a thank you note from your SO, whatever
  • I am going to impose a monthly quote of 2 "clients" a month. I have a busy work and home life and am not looking to make this a full time gig
