Greetings everyone,

We wanted to take a moment and let everyone know about the !business@lemmy.world community on Lemmy.World which hasn't gained much traction. Additionally, we've noticed occasional complaints about Business-related news being posted in the Technology community. To address this, we want to encourage our community members to engage with the Business community.

While we'll still permit Technology-related business news here, unless it becomes overly repetitive, we kindly ask that you consider cross-posting such content to the Business community. This will help foster a more focused discussion environment in both communities.

We've interacted with the mod team of the Business community, and they seem like a dedicated and welcoming group, much like the rest of us here on Lemmy. If you're interested, we encourage you to check out their community and show them some support!

Let's continue to build a thriving and inclusive ecosystem across all our communities on Lemmy.World!

The question that everyone has been dying to know has been answered. Finally! What will scientists study next?

Maybe he should just take a one-way solo trip if he loves Mars so much? I think we could crowdsource the funding for that.

X is still losing users in Europe, while it’s also, apparently, losing moderators as well, according to its latest EU transparency report.

JUHASZ: DiBenedetto now works for Louisiana's Department of Education and is in charge of bringing Amira into more classrooms. He says by the time the state's two-year pilot is over...

DIBENEDETTO: I think we're going to see some interesting impacts, and we'll definitely have some data to make prudent decisions in the future.

JUHASZ: Like whether to spend even bigger money on AI. The company behind Amira says 2 million children already use the tool. Experts caution the technology isn't a replacement for teachers or even all tutors. It can't build relationships with students like humans can.

MONTAGNINO: I'm old-school. I still believe people, especially with reading for little kids - that's where it's at.

JUHASZ: Montagnino, the principal in Gretna, says for that reason, she was skeptical at first.

MONTAGNINO: But this, to supplement good science of reading instruction in the classroom? This is great.

JUHASZ: And it's likely to get better because just as kids are learning from Amira, it's learning from them, too.

[Bolding added]

So it seems an alternative headline for this story would be "Private for profit company gets paid to collect training data for its AI from children who could face disciplinary or legal consequences for non-compliance"

About time. This also applies to their older models such as M2 and M3 laptops.

In the U.S., the MacBook Air lineup continues to start at $999, so there is no price increase associated with the boost in RAM.

The M2 macbook air now starts at $1000 for 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. Limited storage aside, that's surprisingly competitive with most modern Windows laptops.

"On 11th November BBC iPlayer will no longer be available directly on this device."

OK, so, I didn't purchase this particular (Blaupunkt) TV, but as it's my mother's then, well, I'm the one that has to "fix" this.

Personally, I use TVs as a simple screen and watch everything through other devices (Roku, or a Linux PC running MythTV).

I see the BBC website has some links to review sites, but I thought this might be another place to ask for - preferably open source - devices that could be used.

A combination of good high-speed internet coverage, high digital literacy rates, large rural populations and fast-growing fintech industries had put the Nordic neighbours on a fast track to a future without cash.

[...]

But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and a subsequent rise in cross-border hybrid warfare and cyber-attacks blamed on pro-Russia groups have prompted a rethink.

[...]

The Swedish government has since completely overhauled its defence and preparedness strategy, joining Nato, starting a new form of national service and reactivating its psychological defence agency to combat disinformation from Russia and other adversaries. Norway has tightened controls on its previously porous border with Russia.

[...]

[Norway's] justice and public security ministry said it “recommends everyone keep some cash on hand due to the vulnerabilities of digital payment solutions to cyber-attacks”. It said the government took preparedness seriously “given the increasing global instability with war, digital threats, and climate change. As a result, they’ve ensured that the right to pay with cash is strengthened”.

OK, its just a deer, but the future is clear. These things are going to start kill people left and right.

How many kids is Elon going to kill before we shut him down? Whats the number of children we're going to allow Elon to murder every year?

The rollout of RCS on iMessage has been confusing to me. I know some carriers like Mint don't yet support iMessage RCS; the company's founder has said that it's something on their end that will be fixed around December. But I've also seen some people on Apple's forums pointing fingers at Apple.

I want to get a better understanding of what the holdup is. How does the iMessage RCS bridge work? What are the technical challenges? Why was every carrier not working on this for months and prepared for the iOS 18 rollout? And if I'm using Google Messages on an MVNO that doesn't yet support iMessage RCS, does that imply I can't RCS message an iPhone user on a carrier that does support it?
