Doubling down on demands that June’s presidential runoff vote be thrown out due to foreign interference and tallying irregularities, Petro vowed to fight de la Espriella’s incoming government, a “servant to the US leaders who helped elect him,” in the streets. "They're able to displace 2 million Palestinians from Gaza during the war, but they can't remove 20 settlers. It doesn't make sense." On July 11, 2025, Palestinian American Saif Musallet was beaten to death by a mob of Israeli settlers on his family's land near Sinjil in the occupied West Bank – he was visiting family from his home in Tampa, Florida, ahead of his 21st birthday. Saif survived the initial attack, but as he lay bleeding, Israeli soldiers and settlers blocked paramedics from reaching him for more than two hours, and he died before he made it to the hospital. Saif’s father Kamel Musallet was also attacked by settlers on the anniversary of his son’s murder when he tried to reach the land where Saif was killed. That's because Saif's murder was not an aberration — it's the Israeli colonial system working as designed. Kamel tells BT Live that a full year after US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee proclaimed Saif’s murder a “criminal and terrorist act” and promised to get his family answers from Tel Aviv, no one has been held accountable for his son’s horrific death. At least 50 people have been killed and hundreds more wounded in ten consecutive days of US airstrikes targeting critical Iranian infrastructure, its health ministry says. Tehran has hit back, with two US soldiers killed in retaliatory strikes in Jordan and a third killed in Iraq over the weekend, bringing the total American body count to at least 17. But Tehran-based journalist Navid Zarrinnal says Tehran maintains a clear, critical advantage: “Even though they are weaker technologically and militarily, they still have leverage over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has built a resistance economy for the past 47 years; it can absorb this kind of pressure on its economy much better than the US, which has to keep its own population content, but also the broader population: The US does have power over the integrated global economy in a very different way than Iran.” That pressure – and the war map – is growing, with Yemen's Ansar Allah declaring an embargo on Saudi shipping through Bab-el-Mandeb on Monday, meaning both ends of the Arabian Peninsula are now contested. Zarrinnal says Donald Trump is at war with Iranian sovereignty, to which there can be no diplomatic solution – and time’s running out on his political clock. Around 25,000 protestors rallied in Tokyo's Shibuya Scramble Crossing on Sunday, opposing remilitarization and Japan’s push to revise Article 9, the pacifist clause of its Constitution. The protestors are in addition calling for the resignation of far-right Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who ignited a diplomatic firestorm in November when she pledged she would deploy Japanese troops in the event of a military crisis in the Taiwan Strait. Japan's military budget for 2025 reached a record-breaking 9 trillion yen (approx. $58 billion), and in a major shift from its post-WWII pacifist policy, the country lifted its ban on lethal export weapons earlier this year and is also actively participating in US-led war exercises across the region. Critics assert that Takaichi is leading the country into the US-led war on China. Takaichi’s approval rating has fallen below 50 percent as of July 17, according to recent polls.
