(I have the Boox go color) and the layers don't bother me at all. The color needs ambient light to really shine, but for normal black and white content I don't see it as downgraded vs a non color 300ppi screen at all. It looks at least as crisp as an actual book to me.

Screen door effect on VR headsets is a huge deal I can't get past, while others seem to not notice it at all, so maybe there's just a difference in how people perceive it. Or maybe there's some kind of micro difference in alignment that affects perceived clarity.
