This is a good example of why the "weird" calling of the right is so effective. People on the left doesn't mind being called weird, in fact many takes pride in it, it is what drives counterculture.
For right wingers everything is about fitting in and living up to their idealised 1940s standards. They are absolutely terrified of not belonging to their in-group, so it hits them right where it hurts, while their opponents are completely immune to it.
More like 1933 standards
