Depends on your house, right. I know someone who lives completely off grid, although they do have indoor plumbing. They're not even way out in the wilds either, just 10-15 miles from the nearest town. They're actually only a mile or two from a hydroelectric plant! I'd say it is unusual and unnecessary though, in most cases
