that's actually one of the better things about your system. you can't take your political opposition out of the race by arresting them.

is it really though?

It backfires when the crimes are seen by everyone and the justice takes years. Imagine if Ginny Thomas had been indicted around May 2021. That takedown may have neutered the supreme court's overreaches (immunity, roe, etc) - yet here we are.

When the criminals get away with their crimes on the national stage over and over again, maybe some people need to be arrested and prevented from participating in the very election system they undermined.

One side is using that faith in the process to undermine the entire institution.

This is painfully obvious and half of the country (more likely 1/4th but enough to swing a vote) agrees.
