I'm undecided on whether or not I should cancel my gym membership and switch to the council instead. The gym I'm currently at is a group fitness gym which is a highly motivating and supportive environment, and great for making sure I see people considering I don't really have a third space besides school and work. However, I miss going to a gym with machines and the council one has a pool. Plus it's cheaper. Only the social aspect missing. I think it's a case of loss aversion here.
I should add that I'm not using it as often as I like to get value out of it.
the social aspect is of very great value. I would stay where you are.
That's the part I don't want to give up. Being in a group setting is motivating.
Can you get a casual pass to visit the council one a few times to try it out? Idk maybe thereβs something that would sway your decision.
Or maybe even get a casual pass to use the pool and machines whenever you want to.
Thatβs if they still offer that
I will look into this :)
I use a council gym and it's fab. Pretty cheap ($36/fortnight for the top membership which includes reformer pilates) and it's pretty social too. With really lovely staff and a mandate from council around social inclusion and engagement and stuff. They run events, there's a cafe, and it's just a really nice vibe.
It's not actually my closest council gym though, I travel (a whole ten minutes) to a neighbouring LGA for a shiny new facility.
18 bucks a week, that's really cheap for reformer pilates too!
Does the Council gym offer classes you can join in?
Yep, they offer the standard sort of gym classes.
