Kids are expert in not letting p's know though.

While that is true, there is a level of trust between kids and parents that needs to be established. I think my wife and did a job with this, and our kids very honest with us.

Ironically, I was not honest with my parents, as they wouldn't really listen to my opinions.

We'll have discussion with our kids on any range of topics. Our opinions might differ but they have a voice. And sometimes they're right, which I'm happy to admit to them. At the same time, we encourage them to use logic and think of consequences (and causes) of different things.

Something I've never had with my parents, and my wife had even less.

It's not perfect parenting, but I know my kids and our kids know us.
