Fediverse vs Disinformation

471 readers

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

It's a trip because physically they're pretty close to adulthood, although they still have some more maturing to do. Mentally and emotionally they're close to adulthood in some regards, and still very much children in others. Their brains literally haven't developed certain processing areas yet, so they're not as capable as actual adults at processing things like long-term consequences. Lastly, to anyone who is an actual full-blown adult, 17 year olds are full-on kids. The only people who don't think they are, are other kids around their age, and apparently dudes like Gaetz.
