Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Go do something about it then. Revolutions happen when people start organizing

Yes, but it’s becoming disheartening because every time we’ve tried to do something important it seems like liberals block us at every turn

It is disheartening. Its likely anything YOU do will end in failure for those reasons and any other of the many reasons. But only 1 person needs to have success. So the more people doing things to fix the problems means more opportunities for that one person to find or just be positioned correctly before they even start.

For the rest of the people doing things its a sacrifice of time and effort, ultimately.

The sacrifice is still worth pursuing, over the course of time it will have ripple effects, through that struggle you might even unexpectedly ignite a spark in someone that will carry the torch long after you are gone.

Its all abstract and doesnt feel good because of immediate concerns.

Why are all of us who arent part of that big club suffering? Because thats how the system has been corrupted to operate.

Education is more than just having letters behind your name. And its that basic education that has been torpedoed repeatedly so its that much harder and that much more effort to spend getting enough of us on the same issues to force real change.

It absolutely can happen, but we might be at the point where words, awareness, and acknowledgment of the problems isnt enough. Just talking about it to others that feel the same way already isnt going to solve anything

People need to take back the levers we were supposed to be used to keep the powers in line.

We have lost control when there is so much corruption like exists at the lofty heights. And again like has played out throughout the course of history its the robber barons of our modern global arena that are once again in control, not that they havent always had some influence where they are clearly not supposed to, but its obvious to me, and i think you, that they arent even trying to hide it anymore
