Support isn't binary, and it's something you can build and increase

Fights like this aren't fully won or lost on short term time scales

I’ve been voting for 25 years and my side has lost a lot more than they won.

Get outta here with your timescales. Americans are racist idiots and I can’t change that.

Keep in mind that as we look at things now, many of Republicans policies are deeply unpopular even among many Republican voters. For instance, Project 2025 has only a 4% approval rating, 57% disapproval

There is a disconnect between what people think they are voting for and what they are actually voting for. It's a launching off point to change things from. Many people really did think he would lower prices. If Trump goes through with plans on steep Tarrifs their support will hardly be so vocal for him

Look at Bush 2004 to - economy crashing - and then Obama 2008

Lets also look at other areas that we tend to think of as linear forms of progress that really weren't - like the civil rights era. There were serious regressions during Jim Crow and things took a long time to get better, but the leaders who made progress didn't give up and were able to get a lot through

The Plessy v Ferguson ruling was in the 1896. The NAACP started going after different underpinnings of it piece by piece in the 1930s. It took until the 1950s for them to start getting serious wins undermining the Plessy ruling - suggesting that it could fully be overturned which it was in 1954

A refreshing, non doomerism take. Thank you. I needed this today.

This was a little refreshing to read. I think I can now proceed on with less cautious pessimism :) /s

Though seriously, thanks for getting the information out there, it doesn't hurt to curry a little bit of solace

My brother gives it until Feburary when the tariffs make everything skyrocket, then we're gonna hear about a ton of people losing their shit which will probably lead to political violence.

I’m too old to wait for the rest of my country to come to its goddamn senses.

I think I'm slowly becoming an anarchist because of this.

Companies won't save us.

The government won't save us.

501(c)(3)s won't save us.

We have to save us.

There are things you can do to perform everyday anarchy. Create communities with your book club, then create welfare by leveraging said book club to create a mutual fund, or a food bank, or god help us a militia (look up operation blazing sword for training bipoc and LGBTQ folks in firearms and self defense).

Don't wait for someone to give you permission to survive. Sic semper tyranus.

Glad to hear it. Read Graeber and Bookchin. And just… read. It’s good for you.

I dont think think that Americans are racist, I think the problem is that Democrat's pitch was "we'll uphold the system that failed you", while Trump's was " I'm going to destroy it".

After pelosi won by scheming against AOC, and from her hospital bed, that was the final nail in the coffin. Theres no future for this party, they are now just a diluted republican party.

That's.... sadly exactly what happened.

America is a country built by racism. Slavery and genocide are massive parts of our history. Always have been.

Humans are terrible. Americans are the worst of us.

You might be right but why would you want others to die on the inside as well

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe they’ll give up on electoral politics and take up direct action like Luigi.
