Dammit, so the Melbourne sub going private thing smashed my last 6 months of journaling on the DT. Had I known I could have copied it. Anyone an old melbourne mod here? Any ideas where it might be webarchived? I messaged the old mods today to try and see if they'll grant me access for a little while to copy it. I should have doing it all along, but I obvioulsy didn't foresee this and I had no warning all our old comments would disappear. eck.
EDIT in other news I went to the st kilda town hall for the pop up drag storytime run by rainbow community angels in the wake of another drag storytime event being cancelled due to the disgustiing behaviour of a few. It was cold and wet but our hearts were warmed. happy pride. again.
I'm quite pissed off that if they are going to make r/Melbourne private, I can't go back and delete old posts and comments while it's like this.
Yeah, I'm not angry, just disappointed.
Heya, so, not a mod but I have a couple of ideas. Check the wayback machine (https://web.archive.org/) (search for both reddit.com/r/melbourne and /u/[your username]. New reddit is a toxic ass garbage mess and it really kills the wayback machine's ability to archive things, but you may be able to recoevr some stuff.
Next is more technical and probably a lot of work but an old reddit scraping service called PushShift would have archived everything you've ever written (before reddit shut them down in April). they used to publish this data, so if you have the patience and storage space (and download speed), you could download their archives and probably use some sort of tool to refine it down to just your comments.
FWIW i don't think melbs will be private forever, but the thing is we don't know when they'll be back (or for sure even IF they'll be back, though they probably will)
Genius! I’ll have to check using the Wayback Machine tomorrow. Such a great idea. Hopefully it works.
Thank you! I was hoping it might come back on locked even, for 24 hours. We'll see, I understand why it had to happen I'm just a bit perplexed as to why it wasn't in their it will be going private soon post.
Can't you see it on your account profile... https://old.reddit.com/user/Hongohones I Can.
It's just a bunch of comments from the only other sub i use, the trans one. Definitely not the melbourne one unfortunately. But thanks for checking, I really appreciate it.
Ahh yeah, for real, sorry. My /r/melbs comments aren't there.
vale.
