Before you panic at the title, remember to read the article. It's anti-vaccine mandates. You can still get your vaccine it seems. Until the king says otherwise.

If 20 to 30% of the population decides they don’t want to get them anymore we are in deep shit dude. The nuance here isn’t helping

I wouldn't be surprised if we are already at the 20 - 30% on a lot of illnesses. I mean about half the country got the covid vaccine and children can already opt out of vaccinations at school with a doctor's note.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago

It's opt-out vs. opt-in. It makes a difference. A lot of people will just do what's easier.

Yes on a lot - not even half the population get the flu shot - but the ones where it’s mandatory to go school or to have certain jobs has meant a lot of the key ones we have well over 90% vaccinated currently but sadly dropping.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

or to have certain jobs

Well, donvict's wrecking crew is working on that, too. They are reinstating military that opted out of vaccines.

I'm sure it won't end there.

They don't need a doctor's note. They need a parent's note saying they are against vaccination.

I'm a notary for a municipality and at the beginning of the school year we get flooded with parent's getting thise notes signed. Most businesses refuse to notarize that bullshit, but at the city we can't refuse to notarize based on ethical grounds.

Maybe you can talk everyone in to taking a vacation the week before school starts.

Accuracy is important. But then again, it doesn't make much difference.

People are dumber than ever, and a lack of a mandate means herd immunity starts to fail because not enough people are vaccinated. At that point, people start saying, "Everyone's still getting sick, vaccines must not work," accelerating vaccine-skepticism and disease in a feedback loop.

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

This simply won’t end here. RFK wanted vaccines pulled off the market. (He may put on a show during his confirmation and lie and pretend now he loves them though)

Antivaxxers have spent the last 4 years claiming that vaccines cause people to “shed” vaccine particles or spike proteins. They’re blaming miscarriages, autism, and actual covid on this mythical shedding and some have tried to ban vaccinated people from businesses and homes. They’ll try to ban vaccines to stop this delusion.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Still; they'll spread enough bullshit so that stupid people will think that vaccines are not worth getting, which is nearly as bad as banning them outright when it comes to efficacy.
