I'm from Montreal. One of my friend work for the city. I remember I was shocked when she told me they buy most of their from amazon. Isn't it just common sens to buy local? It's not news that amazon is a fucking disgusting soul-less business. Same goes for all the gafam. I work for colleges and a university and the addiction to Microsoft is fucking insane. It's to the point where it's now even impossible to work or study in an institution if you refuse to give all your personnal data to Microsoft. What a fucking stupid society we have built.
They put their OS in most prebuilt computers, which unlike Apple are mostly affordable for the average user, so it's what people are used to. Linux is a lot of DIY even with user-friendly distros, and I think the tech support they give isn't as trusted as Microsoft's.
I have been trying to get far from GAFAM but, due to how shit is already built around it, it's hard. I don't think I'll convince anyone to give up whatsapp at all, let alone Windows
It's actually not even computer related. The government has a law about 2FA for all institutions. They're a lot of solution possible but of course, they forces you to use ms authenticator.
