fun fact, nicotine is produced in the roots. a dude in lake oswego oregon made tomacco in 2003. you graft a tomato plant onto some tobacco roots. you can also use tomato roots with tobacco grafted on to get tobacco without nicotine.

granted, I read about this over a decade ago so some details may be fuzzy
