Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

How can anyone support Republicans anymore

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 61 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Because a large part of Americans are pieces of human shit.

[–] WeeSheep@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Or are brainwashed with Republican owned media, which is most news networks and various things with news in the title. I've met and talked to people who are Republican and most are inadvertantly ignorant; they try and keep up with what's happening but because of where they look they end up with misrepresenting and missing pieces. Left News is also missing pieces, so people tend to talk past each other, which doesn't help either.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 30 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

No.

If you support harming others who have done nothing other than exist, you can't blame brainwashing. You're not a good person, full stop.

The truth is that a large portion of humans are stupid, selfish, hateful, pieces of shit. It's why brainwashing works on them; it's just directing them, not actually changing them.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right. But that's why they're fed the excuses "they broke the law coming into the country!" "they committed a crime!" "they had gang tattoos!" when they overstayed a visa or applied for asylum, were unjustly convicted, or had autism awareness tattoos. But they're fed lies, so in their minds it's justified.

"Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."

This is why it is an individual's responsibility to be critical of their own and others' motivations, to attempt awareness of manipulations by others and our own self-deceptions.

Even the best of my countrymen are not good at any of these things, but people that do not even make the attempt certainly seem to skew toward MAGA.

The Republican Party has been voting for defunding education every chance they can for over fifty years. They’ve also gotten away with being called conservatives when they aren’t socially conservative (voting for pervy Don) or fiscally conservative (in office for every economic downturn). The fools still calling them that might as well call them the angel kisses party of happiness.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can probably be brainwashed into being a bad person, so por qué no los dos, ya know? Everything you mentioned works together in its shittiness.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee -1 points 1 year ago

No, I couldn't.

Dude for real look at what Fox is spoonfeeding them some day

[–] sudoer777@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Not too long ago I would have agreed with you. But at some point, I realized I grew up in the same environment they did, surrounded almost entirely by Republican Christian nationalist propaganda, and I saw past it by listening to the people it was targeting. They might be brainwashed, but they can still choose to listen to other people also, but they don't, so their ignorance is their own fault.

[–] skeezix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Think of how stupid the average conservative is, then remember, half of them are stupider than that.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

all of the MSM are owned by conservatives, is there even source of "left leaning news", i never heard of one.

[–] pupbiru@aussie.zone 0 points 1 year ago

the onion is about as factual as the right wing news and is pretty left leaning

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 0 points 1 year ago

try to* keep up

[–] capital_sniff@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The MAGA members I know are totally down to send folks off to foreign prisons. They don't think the laws or bill of rights apply to "illegals." How do they know the person the federal law enforcement officers have detained is the right "illegal" without going to court? They don't care.

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Because the republican mantra is "not my problem if it isn't happening to me".

You also overestimate how much people pay attention to current events. Most voters have no idea what's going on.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think republicans would say this amendment was just political theater. Trump is not allowed to deport US citizens. It is already against the law, so why create an amendment that just doubles down on the current law?

That said, when Trump deports a US citizen, or even threatens it, republicans should do something to stop it.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I can see this. Thing is, us citizens were already deported. Sure they were kids, but that doesn't and shouldn't mean boo. US citizens are US citizens. This just proves that they can't be trusted!
