The story is actually about a drug for recent mothers who apparently increases suicide tendencies.
I think you’re talking about the new medication approved to treat postpartum depression.
Increased risk of suicidal thoughts and actions is a very commonly listed side effect of a great deal of antidepressant medications. That’s why you’re supposed to be closely supervised when you start them and report any oddities to your doctor asap.
So it doesn’t increase suicidal tendencies across the board, only in those who are susceptible to that side effect.
Yeah that's it, they say the industry is trying to present postpartum depression as something that needs to be treated when it's something very normal.
Just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be treated. Most illnesses are “normal” until we find a way to treat it. Some mothers have very severe postpartum that prevents them from caring for the baby.
I’m curious if you could imagine any information that would shift your position on any of your ideas? I’m not trying to be a dick, genuinely wondering.
My ideas change over time, so I guess all information may shift my position.
