It was refreshing to experience a game that had a mature, complex and multifaceted story that seemed to understand its audience was adults. Are there any more games like this?

Couldn't disagree more. Those games purposely have this strange trademark japanese slapstick humor, that make them completely unsuitable to convey serious mature content imo

the optional side quests are often wacky and silly, sure. but the overarching main story for each game is pretty much always serious and mature
