surely the best resting place for a sword would be something like a sheath. I guess that's how it works IRL too, most places aren't equipped for the comfort of every user. I don't even have to suspend disbelief to read your comics!
Sheaths are very hard to breathe in!
Are swords known to perform aerobic respiration?
I don't know any who are explicitly not.

from what I recall, a sheath for a sword this long would have a slit down the side. though I believe the purpose was to make it easier to draw, not for the sword's comfort
