Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.

MODERATORS
Many are smart because they can afford better education.
Being better educated doesn't make them smart. I know some geniuses who had to drop out of high school to work and some real dumbasses with doctorates.
If you take two equally capable people and give one a better education the better educated one will be generally smarter.
They'll be more knowledgeable and better educated. They won't be smarter.
What do you think smarter means if not more knowledgable and better educated?
Smarts/intelligence is the capacity to learn. An educated person has been taught. A knowledgeable person has learned.
So you think you are born with a specific capacity for intelligence that cannot be changed to make people have a greater capacity to learn? (Obviously blunt force trauma can make someone less capable).
There's definitely variance in human intelligence, yes.

Yes. People have different natural abilities.
I played the bassoon for over a decade. I had access to truly excellent instructors and a great music program and worked hard at it. And after years of training and work, I was decent. I saw other people with no prior music background pick it up and get better than me in 2-3 months.
People's brains are wired differently.
So do you think intelligence is like a stat in an RPG?
I'm saying that people are varied and that individuals have a maximum potential. Not everybody can lift weights to the point they become the strongest person on the planet, and not everyone can study until they're the most-knowledgeable person on the planet.
We're not clones. Everyone is born different with different brains and bodies, and it's important to recognize that so we can cater to people's individual needs, learning styles, abilities, and passions.
That’s not the question I asked. It seems like you think you are born with a set unchanging amount of intelligence and my understanding is that simply is not true and that through education you can increase that capacity for knowledge.
My brother and I noted the propensity for some people born into wealth to be attractive as well. Braces when you're 10 and a dermatologist when you're 13 can have massive, lasting impacts decades later. Just a bit more invisible privilege those born to money get.
Historically, rich people have been able to alter what people consider attractive too. There were multiple cultures across the globe that painted their teeth black because being able to eat a lot of imported sugar made your teeth rot.
Straight up health problems being romanticized just because it was a problem only affecting the rich.
