Yeah I did. No mention of "genocide" in the article or its sources, just a "slaughter".
This was second hand from an internal call, not an official statement. Even in an internal call he used the more graphic word "slaughter" rather than "violence" or "killing".
This is action, which you have to admit is far beyond the bare minimum of flapping lips. Many politicians use the word "genocide" and do nothing beyond that. I disagree with organized religion as a whole but I am not going to bad mouth a group that was housing 600+ people in their church, including elderly, disabled, and children. The church was hit by the IDF and they killed the priest, and after all that the Pope calls his Cardinal in Jerusalem, not to tell him to stop his aid deliveries out of a concern for safety but to convey that they need to work harder to "stop the slaughter". Again, that's more than the "bare minimum".

Not for a man as powerful as the head of the Catholic Church. He could do more.
Yeah I really meant to yell at Leo in particular because IMO he's kind of a moderate (compared to Francis). Good point.
Again I think that for such a powerful man, this is the bare minimum. For example, go to the church himself instead of sending his people.
It is not like "slaughter" is any nicer word than "genocide". I would argue that slaughter sounds much worse to an average person.
Genocide is what Netanyahu is doing, and slaughter is how.
As someone else pointed out, I acknowledge that the original article is second-hand information about a private call, so it really doesn't matter to be precise in that exact scenario. So strictly speaking, I jumped the gun.
However... since then, Pope Leo has come out with a public statement:

My critique now applies. He calls it a "war" and a "conflict" here, and a "slaughter" in the private phone call. None of these are sufficient or even necessary (PDF warning) for genocide to occur (although they most certainly are occuring!). His refusal to use the word "genocide" is deliberate. If he had even a quarter of a spine, he'd be calling it a genocide. He's literally the literal Pope! He has the power to do this!
Not only slaughter but active refusal of help and active blocking of food, water and other resources.
Including killing people just trying to help.
It is all even worse.
...he's the pope, he's gotta be charitable..
