Or by a government committing genocide on subsets of it's citizens? A government that has disappeared citizens for decades for bit falling in line? Yeah, the US does that now too but at least it's just starting. At least the US has had some sort of free press until recently. Good luck with any of that in China
Also, you missed the part where I said that nobody should be able to spy on me, we need open source hardware. That is the much bigger point. The US and China both suck, I don't want to have to deal with either

And yes, all that is happening, and no, China is notoriously NOT cooperating, and yes, they have a reach as even uyghurs in Europe are followed when they try and speak out.
None of this is controversial, this is well established. Then again you're one of those "I did my research, I read a Facebook page!" type skeptics that always come up with these weird requirements that can't be met before you'll believe anything that doesn't match your warped world view.
