Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Palantir, Geo Group and CoreCivic, cogs in president’s enormous detention and deportation machinery, report ‘unprecedented growth’

The tech, surveillance and private prison providers arming Donald Trump’s massive expansion and weaponization of immigration enforcement are running a victory lap after reporting their latest financial results.

Palantir, the tech firm, and Geo Group and CoreCivic, the private prison and surveillance companies, said this week that they brought in more money than Wall Street expected them to, thanks to the administration’s crackdown on immigrants.

Private prison company executives, during their respective calls, could barely contain their excitement, flagging to investors opportunities for “unprecedented growth” in the realm of immigration detention.

“Palantir gets attacked just because we help make this country even better, because we support the values, because we defend it,” Karp said. “And us being able to win while having an opinion does have an impact on the world, if only because the people who think we are wrong are not good, have to be a little jealous and suffer.”

You know, nobody expects billionaires to be down to earth, but this level of delusional is more than just out of touch billionaire. This is out of touch billionaire who is also blindingly drunk on power.

Before I even got to the part where he actually accused critics of just being jealous, I was already thinking he sounded like a friend of mine who would always jokingly say "You're juss jealouss" when shitfaced, and people warned her to pace herself. Except this guy is not joking.

He has convinced himself that profiting from the destruction of equality and civil liberty is somehow making America great. I fucking hate this guy. Not because I'm jealous, but because he's part of a treasonous coup. If there is any justice, he and everyone else profiting from this shit will go down in history as the Benedict Arnolds they actually are.

Setareh added that private prison companies’ profits come from “the destruction of human lives as directed by the Trump administration and made possible by the majority Congress”.

Don't forget this. They make this possible, and many of them are watching their own investments grow. Every time we support or passively allow them to maintain seats of power, we are also making it possible.

He's not even fucking from here. Like, he immigrated, he's American, but he came from Germany and that makes his love of surveillance even more damning

I think Karp was born in NY, but Thiel was born in Germany. Just one more thing to add to the list of why Thiel is a hypocrite who never should have been given power.

I find it interesting that being rejected for a clerkship by conservative SCOTUS judges is probably one of the only times he was ever told "No" in his life. Destroying constitutional rights/civil liberty was probably always his long term goal, and even when he failed going the traditional route, he has somehow managed to find an alternative way to destroy this country.

No returns on Thiel though, we have to make that clear here. If Adolf was German and the Austrians don't take him back, we don't take Thiel or Trump back

Given power? The dude did not get given his economic power. Thiel stole it from us!

Honestly I'd happily propose gutting them for the shear fucking lack of humility alone. If you are going to be a right bastard at least know what you are, I hope I am granted the opportunity to watch them cry in confusion as their lungs fill with blood.
