Dumping a GnuCash PostgreSQL Database (lemmy.ml)

I started using a PostgreSQL database with GnuCash instead of a file, and set up a weekly cron job to dump the database to a file. Here's the script:

#!/usr/bin/env bash

# Requires that ~/.pgpass exists, is chmod 600, and contains a line like:
#
# 127.0.0.1:5432:*:gnucash_user:my-secret-password

pg_dump -h 127.0.0.1 -U gnucash_user -d gnucash_db -Fc > ${HOME}/gnucash_$(date +%F).dump

I'm probably going to modify this script to check that ~/.pgpass exists.

Any other changes you think I need?

[Off-topic] Hey thanks for starting up this community! I’m still new to GnuCash, so I don’t imagine I’ll stuff to contribute soon, and more likely questions than answers.

The threadiverse is still very small and this topic is very niche, so it may not get much traction for a while—possibly a long while. Regularly posting quality content usually helps a lot—not to imply that you’re expected to so in the slightest. Catching the occasional spam and enforcing site rules is really all we hope for mods to contribute, and those cases are rarer than you might think.

Glad to be here! I'm new to Lemmy (and the whole Fediverse) so I figured this would give me a good reason to get on here regularly and use it. I'm probably going to be mostly posting details about how I set up and use GnuCash for myself, in case it helps anyone else—including my future self when I inevitably forget how I did something 🤣. Feel free to ask questions or post your experiences.
