It's dumb but that is their legal requirement to do under US trademark law. An undefended trademark is revokable.
They are not required to do so
They are if they don't want to risk losing the trademark.
You do not have to sue traders selling competitors products, holding up shippings of competitors products, sueing competitors for producing the same products and dont have to sue for people labling all of these products with your brand. Tempo doesnt, clinex doesnt, fregidairs didnt, bandade doesnt/didnt
