Starting December, Amazon’s Ring cameras will scan and recognize faces. Don’t want to be in their database? Too bad — walk past a Ring and your face can be stored, tagged, & analyzed without consent.

I know, which is why it's not going to be my primary lock.
For someone to bypass my locks, instead of breaking a window, a bunch of things have to come about and they're all "and" statements.
If any of those statements is false, I would be no worse off, or better off, with an electric lock. If they want in, they're coming through a window.
I did think about a Yale as an auxiliary lock, but I've run up against it's advantages (read: locking myself out) more than once. Also, if they can bypass the main lock, they can bypass a Yale, I figure, as it's a similar skillset.
"All electronic locks can be hacked" is the same statement as "all tumbler locks can be picked". I'm guessing you still use one though.
All my locks are bypassable by breaking my window. All mechanical locks are pickable, some are more easily picked than others. All electronic locks are hackable, some are more easily hacked than others. The electronic lock will be an auxiliary lock.
My locks don't look any different between "locked" and "unlocked" states, it's just a keyhole in a door. A camera pointed at the door cannot tell me if the door is locked or not. It simply doesn't solve the problem I am trying to solve.
Here's an example:
Is that door locked or unlocked? How did you come to that conclusion? Can we agree that's an unreasonably good view of a lock for a camera to have and it's still not possible to tell what state that lock is in?
Thank you for your input though. I'll probably be setting up cameras anyway, mostly to dissuade people from breaking my window instead of my neighbour's. Just doesn't help with the lock
I am one of the dozens of people that do not live in your city, as such suffer different laws. Also my house is older than any such laws. I implore you to think that perhaps I know my locks better than you. The town I live in is mentioned in the 1086 Doomsday book, not saying my house was made in 1086, just giving you an idea of how old things here can be. So again, I'll ask the question you avoided: is that lock open or closed? You didn't answer the question.
Your second paragraph is just telling me things I've been telling you. Yes, if someone wants in they're coming in, the electronic lock isn't for that, I've repeated that almost every comment. So, I'll ask you a second question: what do you believe the second lock is for? I don't think you know despite me repeating that ad infinitum too. But thank you, we agree, any lock on my door merely needs to be more inconvenient to break than the window a couple feet away.
A camera inside the house pointed at the front door can't be visible to the street and as such can't act as a deterrent, it doesn't even solve the problem as you seem to understand it. Again, imagine for a minute, that I know the layout of my house better than you and try not to correct me on this, like you incorrectly tried to correct me on what my own lock looks like.
This conversation has been frustrating because you haven't been able to imagine I live in different standards than you (for better or worse), and that I understand my situation better than you do. Also, though I've repeated many times you haven't seemed to have understood the problem being solved. It's a very narrow problem I'm trying to solve, what is it?
Good security is a system of layers. No one layer impervious. Adding an electric lock to the front door is adding another layer, it doesn't have to be impervious on its own. Regardless, as you have finally acknowledged and I have said many times, anyone who wants in is coming through the window, not messing with my door. More security isn't the problem I want to solve, what is?
Beyond an electric lock, a keypad lock mostly does what I want it to do. I've already mentioned a Yale lock that'll do the same thing, I've been deciding between them.

Locked or unlocked? Your solution isn't right for my situation. It isn't right for the situation you describe (you can't determin if the door is locked by camera). It doesn't solve the problem I want solving. It doesn't solve the problem you describe (a camera invisible to the street is no added security at all). Please give it up.

I swapped its state. Is the first picture locked, or the second? How are you distinguishing between the two states. Your arrogance is astonishing. You do not know how my locks look and function better than me it's strange to assert you do. Once again, locked Vs unlocked are indistinguishable by looking at the lock. Please believe me, it's getting weird.

Second question you've ignored: what, in you're understanding, is the problem I am trying to solve? How do seeing intruders faces solve it?
You can't keep ignoring me to assert your position, that's not a conversation. A conversation is back and forth, you didn't like the lock, I showed one you like. You didn't like only having one state, I've shown you both. I tell you you're not listening to the problem I want to solve, you continue to solve a different problem.
Quit it.
Oh I do love a bit of ablelism. I'm clearly disabled. Even if I am, does that mean I'm undeserving of leaving the house safe in the knowledge that if I forget to lock the door, it's still locked.
I have shown you that you can't tell by looking at the lock.
I have suggested other locks than electric. Yale, keypad.
I do not want to replace my lock, I want to add another lock.
