Yes the check engine light is on, the o2 sensor wire broke.

Most of my cars in the US have had them. Digital ones you can choose the unit. I've always driven Japanese cars, but I've seen it in rentals also.

I've never driven an American market car whose speedometer was only in miles.

It's because they are also sold in Canada and Mexico
