If I'm not mistaken, this is the opening to Interview with the Vampire, which was turned into a movie with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.

The name Lestat was also used in the film Queen of the Damned for the main vampire protagonist IIRC.

It's one of the later books, but yes, same character as the films.

Thanks for the correction. And now that you mention it, Interview was set in New Orleans and not Miami, right?

The Vampire Chronicles is an extensive series. I think The Body Thief was mostly in Miami.
