Doesn't seem like I'm doing much keeping this files alive on my PC.

Can it be related to me not having public IP address? Or living in a place where not many people speak english (language of audiobooks)?

If connecting to me is troublesome because of dynamic IP, then why there's green globe at the bottom, what does it mean? Initially it's a fire icon. I did some port forwarding in wifi router settings, but I'm not sure if it have any meaning when you don't have public IP.

Oh wow I didn't know ABB had a Lemmy community. I recently started using it myself. I don't know everything but here is what I do know:

  • If your computer is reachable on the correct port, you have done everything right for maximizing uploads.
  • Doing so is not entirely necessary because not having that set up correctly at worst means that other users without the QBT port being publicly accessible cannot download from you. I don't know what percentage of users that affects, but I'm on a private tracker also and they claim the percentage is 30% in that community. Not the end of the world.
  • Not certain what you mean about not having a public IP. My understanding is you cannot use the Internet without one. The only question here is if your computer seeding torrents can be reached at it. You mentioned setting up port forwarding on your router. If that was done correctly then you are publicly accessible that way via that port. I know there are tests for this online. You could probably search for "torrent direct connection test" and find one.
  • It doesn't matter at all that your IP is dynamic.
  • I recently also started seeding torrents intentionally. I don't see a lot of uploading either. I had similar questions to you also but other users assured me of the previous things I've written here regarding how this works. I am paranoid about ISP issues or law enforcement so I only allow qbittorrent a connection via my vpn. My VPN does not allow port forwarding, so I'm also limited slightly in that others in the same boat cannot download from me, since my QBT port is not reachable from public.
  • It may not feel like we are doing much when you look at how much is uploaded, but I think that's largely a function of there being lots of seeders out there. Every little bit helps! I've seen my total uploads grow a lot over the past few weeks, but yeah it's not huge still.

If your computer is reachable on the correct port Port checker detects my port as closed. Since your VPN doesn't allow port forwarding, your port is also detected as closed by online tools?

As for public/white/static IP vs dynamic(default) IP, I know I can call my ISP and tell "give me static IP", they will answer "ok, give us some more money", and I will be able to do port forwarding and probably my uploads will increase significantly, because now I can connect to anyone and everyone can connect to me. Maybe real problem is not in static/dynamic IP, but problem is CGNAT which is reality only for dynamic IP's. Or maybe CGNAT is in effect only for IPv4, but not for IPv6.

Looks like there's no simple answer, one have to understand network technologies. Currently I don't understand them. I will try to dig into IPv6 a little bit more.

Huh this is definitely sounding more complicated than what I know about this topic. You can do port forwarding on any router. You just have to set it to forward the QBT port (7832 By default) to whatever the IP is if your local machine running QBT. I thought I'd read you already did that though so I'm a bit confused.

...I think I have heard of ISPs that block incoming connections by default though now that you mention it so maybe that is what you're referring to? It sounds like you may know more about this than I.

My ISP doesn’t support IPv6. Looks like only solution is to pay either for VPN with port forwarding or for static IP.
