I have zero problems with the Pope retconning the bible into a more peaceful, anti-war version.
It's just a weird thing to claim when their holy book literally contains divine commandments to slaughter specific tribes down to the last man, woman and child, and one major character's downfall is painted as being a result of him not genociding hard enough when told to.
