"Per an official survey from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), HiAnime was cited as a major contributor to the 2.3 trillion yen loss (approximately $15.1 billion) for the anime industry in a 2025 report. A 150% increase over the piracy-related losses officially recorded in 2022."

BS to consider it a financial loss. Those people aren’t going to buy it just bc HiAnime doesn’t offer it. They, typically, don’t have the money to spend, especially before trying something. I’ll also throw in that it's more ethical to pirate this media and support the actual creators in other ways since the studios just leech their earnings.

Sometimes ankle isn’t available? Or only on Crunchyroll, which isn’t a great option for everybody. There is a reason people take to the seas for animes.

Streaming services (especially when it’s only one) being the only way to watch a show legally is such a garbage way of distribution.

The decline of physical media has also really hurt how media is monetized.

Imo they should adopt a 3-free episodes system (streamed), then you can pay for the rest of the series if you want to watch. I think either by episode streamed (with download available), and/or get the season as a download and/or blue-ray or usb flash drive. And forget the drm, that shit isn’t stopping anyone.

Of course none of that will ever happen because publishing and licensing companies are greedy leeches. But the “pay forever, own nothing” model makes it hard to not justify piracy.
