What's more interesting is, beaver castor sacs also used as a strawberry and vanilla flavour substitute, approved by FDA.

Vanillin, the modern artificial vanilla flavor, is made from lignin, one of the main components of bark. Beavers eat a lot of bark, and thus process a lot of lignin. Apparently the lignin accumulates in their anal scent glands.
