It's the constant propaganda that depicts anyone who resorts to even just shouting as a violent extremist, and the notion that nothing was ever solved with violence. Americans are taught only what the government wants them to think was the history of the nation, and to believe that basically everything was always perfect, and any issues were settled by just some simple civil protests. They turned figures like Martin Luther King Jr into a propaganda piece to try and convince people of this, twisting the truth of the civil rights movement to appear as if it was always peaceful, and only those in the wrong ever resorted to shouting at people or using insults or violence.

Keeping people stupid and blissfully ignorant of the truth has always been the point, it makes sure they can never think about solutions to problems and instead simply accept that those in power have it all figured out for them.
