Many liberals, unfamiliar with the context of the war, chose the side they were told to choose and defended it with their trademark combination of ignorance, smugness and hostility. Unaccustomed to being told they're wrong, aggravation and sunk cost has slowly reduced them to the state of justifying and apologizing for fascist Banderite terror attacks targeted at civilians. Every single post about it has at least one saying "whatabout Russia" or "this is Russia's fault for intervening in the ~~ethnic cleansing~~ absolutely nothing that was happening in the Donbas republics". They've spent their whole lives viewing the world through the protofascist good guy/bad guy lens of superhero slop movies, and now exist in a state of such high cortisol and illusory moral superiority that there is now almost no crime they wouldn't justify as long as the Good Guys are doing it. They do not seem to realize that they have all slowly morphed into Israelis. Their guys commit another atrocity and their response is "~~Hamas should just release the hostages~~ Russia should just leave Ukraine"
