No, everyone thought so. Literally. Look at the myth.

Narcissus is a hunter from Thespiae in Boeotia (alternatively Mimas or modern-day Karaburun, İzmir), known for his beauty which was noticed by all.

His mother kept him from the public because she was scared his beauty would piss of the gods. Read the myths. There are a ton of great translations. And they are more fun than DC/Marvel. And also pendant douche bags online won't need to correct you.
