The way I understand it. Anyone on an instance will be able to see what other people on the same instance post, but people on other instances won't see the post because federation triggers through the source community.
Edit: it appears that federation works differently from how it works was explained to me.
That's what I thought, but startrek.website (the instance the community is hosted on right now) is down but you and others from other instances can still see and comment on my and others' posts.
You and OP are definitely not from my instance, yet here I am. Guess Lemmy federation works differently than I thought. That or somehow a piece of Startrek.website is still running out there, even if the front-end is down.
