I just started one, and it dawned on me that other people should probably know it exists.

There's newcommunities@lemmy.world, but I'm not certain if kbin has one yet. I think all we have is findakbin, which is...technically the opposite of what you're looking for, unless someone has happened to ask about your topic

I'd recommend this one. It's federated, there is no reason to start a kbin specific 'newcommunities' unless the federated one sucks or isn't being used and curated.

I agree with them all being federated and being able to use them all. Since I started on kbin, I've been wanting to find groups on kbin and do follow and interact with other federated groups as well. Some of the Lemmy instances and communities seem to have taken off more. Most of what I see on kbin is Lemmy which is a little sad, but glad we can all "talk" together too.

I think the trick now is to help provide the Lemmy and kbin follow links.

Kbin and lemmy are just software for creating and viewing the same kind of content. Would you be 'sad' if someone sent you a document created in libreoffice when you use OpenOffice? No you'd just open it in the software you prefer. You can use either tool to participate in exactly the same way. It doesn't matter whether a discussion is hosted on a server using lemmy or Kbin, that's the beauty of federation. That is to say Kbin and lemmy aren't separate communities. Each instance is it's own thing, but is mostly just a portal to take you wherever the conversation is happening. Totally agree with you on formatting links to make sharing as easy as possible. Hopefully down the line both platforms will be able to recognizer and translate each other's link formatting.

We'll see some prominent communities pop up on kbin soon. Before the reddit blackouts kbin was just a project that /u/ernest was working on with his friends - lemmy was already here and beat kbin to the goal-post on a lot of communities.
