Fuck yeah. I can't remember what the presbetarians are about specifically. But we often forget that near half of christians are not pieces of shit, even as they may not understand the world completely.

The Evangelicals and Calvinists are giving every protestant a bad name. What with the whole cheering on drowning the world in lakes of blood and fire talk.

The evangelicals are fucking nutjobs that blindly believe a <200 year old reinterpretation by a guy who was essentially a grifter. There's been a massive evangelical push recently where they're proselytizing their faith.

Who is this 200 year old grifter? I am unfamiliar. I do remember a douchebag that championed the end of o the world and gave a date, and it passed, and he made another date, which passed, but the faithful never abandoned his bullshit.

I think that was in the 19th century though. I know in the 1830's, then in the 1850's or so, there was an explosion of these guys, the so called great awakenings.

US Evangelicalism is a <200 year old interpretation of the bible (the great reawakening). Then in the early 1900s is when others popularized and commercialized evangelicalism with the second great awakening (billy graham, carl Henry - grifters in their own right).

Then there's the douche grifter that I'm talking about, Schofield.

His notes and interpretations on the bible are basically what inform evangelical teachings and disseminations today - essentially end of the world interpretation, support of Israel, full fledged conservatism, death cult shit. Not to mention he was a confederate cunt.

Yeah before that Christianity was not really all about the end of the world. They were more of a progressive element to keep the state in check.

We were Methodists, but the Presby church was closer, so we went there. I couldn't tell the difference, but I'm sure there are those that would knife fight to the death over that blasphemy.

I also had a girlfriend who was Lutheran, and I went there a few times, and it was more of the same. I was disappointed, somehow I expected something more exotic.

It seems to me there are a bunch of more or less generic Christian-Lite religions, and you can take your pick.

That was all back when I was a teenager, I stopped wasting any time in a church after that. As a musician, I have collected a bunch of hymnals from different branches, mostly for scholarly reference. There is a lot of overlap, but also a lot of hymns unique to each branch. They only cost about $5 on eBay.

Presbyterian are rich baptist generally. Pretty sure they're Calvinists and evangelical too. They are one of the older churches in America.

Landed Gentry very rooted in the establishment. Is my take. I don't know if there's a geographic element or not.

Presbyterians are Scottish Calvinism not Baptists. They can be evangelical depending on which umbrella organization they are under. PC-USA is not though. Prebyterians do tend to be more old-money though.
