People on Lemmy are essentially the same as they are on Reddit (sh.itjust.works)

Don't get me wrong, it's a better experience over all, but basically group dynamics and mob mentality are the same, just at an acceptably lower volume.

I think the real strength of Lemmy isn't anything fancy, it's just that there's fewer people and that creates a more communal vibe and leaves a little more room for conversation.

It also has a host of knock on effects: better moderation, visibility without a ton of upvotes, longer conversations....

I don't know if anyone thinks it--I'm pretty good at arguing against positions nobody's taking--but overall people on Lemmy aren't any different.

Yes, that's unfortunately true. I was hoping that people with the integrity and intelligence to leave reddit would be overall superior in various ways, but that hasn't been my experience.

I was hoping/thinking there would be more people like Luis Rossmann here, but when you look at the front page, it's just as full of low-quality content (memes, screenshots of social media) as Reddit. And I've experienced the same unintelligent behaviors (votes, comments, etc.) here as on reddit.

It makes me wonder where all the intelligent people are. Are they really this rare? They can't have abandoned the internet altogether, could they?

Watch Reddit die. Pray for Reddit to die. Help Reddit die.

Rules

  1. No Reddit shills or trolls. But if you have a good argument for why Reddit should live, we'll hear you out.
  2. Try to be civil and intelligent. Be angry at Reddit, not each other.
  3. Provide evidence as much as possible without doxxing or harassing people.
  4. Should probably avoid linking directly to Reddit. Use archive.today and archive.org links.

Will add more rules as needed.

If you're concerned that your post might be astroturfed/brigaded by pro-reddit individuals, give us mods a heads up beforehand, and we'll try to monitor the thread.
