I'm pretty sure its the other way around: this frog would have been the inspiration for the character.
animals often are. especially unusual ones.
Maybe the other animal named just wolverine was the inspiration too...

The character does not break his bones to weaponize them, and the frog had no role in naming itself. Other people did that, just like other people in this thread pointed out the wolverine part of this species name came much later on and was clearly inspired by popular culture. This bit you're doing of being absurdly, intentionally incorrect and then gaslighting everyone around you to get negative engagement is like a toddler smearing their shit on the tablecloth to get a reaction; It is tiresome. This is where we stop talking.

For anyone who actually cares, Wolverine the comic book character was first written in 1974. This frog was first discovered in the early 1900s, but it's skin-piecing bone claw mechanism wasn't discovered until 2008. It's nickname of "wolverine frog" is 100%, definitively, objectively, named after the comic book character, and not the other way around.
Well yeah, the frog has been around. The name Wolverine frog is more recent than that though. More frequently it's called a hairy frog.
correct. its features of the knuckles were taken for the character. there seems to be some confusion for people to understand a character is newer than the frog and the wolverine name is newer
