Maybe I should try it again if I can find it on sale. I played 5 minutes of it when it first came out and got a refund from Steam. I was shocked at just how bad a new AAA title could look, it looked like it was released 20 years earlier.
It hasn't gotten much better. It's still half a game. Maybe the sequel will be another half of the game... It's entertaining, but very frustrating and unfulfilling. Quite litterally, I wasn't sure if I won the game. It let me start over but keep my ships. So I think that was the end?
The game is built around NG+ and it can get more interesting on additional playthroughs. Each time you reach the end, it can change several aspects of the playthrough. You get out of it what you put into it. If you only do one playthrough and reach the end, it's easy to go "that's it?" and feel like it wasn't complete. But the game really does have some pretty neat things that can happen the more times you start the next round of NG+.

i really am astounded how quickly my opinion on the hunter changed after jumping through the unity and going through the game again. first playthrough he was my mortal enemy and i hated his guts. then after a jump through the unity, hes one of my favorite characters and i sided with him
After enough runs, you slowly start to become him.
